CBA for Downsview

Since the start of TCBN's CBAforDownsview Campaign in the summer of 2021, we have had over a year of stakeholder, community, network member and Government engagement. Furthermore, we have held a series of events over the course of our campaign.

This page will be used for updates regarding TCBN's work to date regarding the Downsview Lands Development:

May 21, 2024 - TCBN Downsview General Meeting (Representatives from Northcrest Developments and the City of Toronto shared presentations on the Downsview development and their respective plans for the area)

• TCBN hosted a general meeting in which participants were updated on the current status of our CBAforDownsview campaign and excerpts from our forthcoming Community Benefits Vision Report were unveiled

May 7, 2024 - Downsview Housing Workshop (Partnered with ACORN)

• TCBN hosted a workshop centered around the need for affordable housing in Downsview and how that factors into the proposed 30+ year development in the area (activities included a presentation, a group discussion, advocacy best practices, etc.)

April 25, 2024 - Downsview Climate Action Workshop (Partnered with the Toronto Environmental Alliance)

• TCBN hosted a workshop centered around environmental sustainability and climate action as it pertains to the Downsview Lands development project (activities included a presentation, breakout group discussions, advocacy best practices, etc.)

September 27, 2023 - Downsview Neighbourhood Tour (Representatives from participating organizations: North York Harvest, Toronto Environmental Alliance, Toronto Black Farmers Collective, TCBN Ambassadors, Buy Social Canada, ACORN and Northcrest Developments)

• TCBN hosted a walking tour which consisted of both walking and bus portions across multiple locations in Downsview Park and the Downsview Airport Runway while addressing changes that will be brought about as a result of the upcoming Downsview Lands Development (35 participants in total)

August – October, 2023 - Downsview Petition Campaign (Partnered with ACORN)

• TCBN Conducted a petition campaign on affordable housing where we engaged knocked 2500 doors, had conversations with 900 people and engaged 360 people

November 29, 2022 - Fall QGM and Launch of TCBN's Downsview Shared Community Benefits Vision 

• During the QGM, we launched our Downsview Shared Community Benefits Vision outlining Community Benefits themes and priorities for the Downsview Lands Development.

July 25, 2022 - Tabling for Downsview at Bathurst Finch Community Food Space Launch

February 2022-July 2022 - TCBN's Downsview Community Benefits Committee

• Over the course of six months, TCBN held meetings with our Downsview Community Benefits Committee to better understand Community Benefits priorities for Downsview. 
• Objective of the committee was to bring together different experiences, backgrounds and areas of expertise to help guide a shared vision for Community Benefits as part of the Downsview Lands Development.
